For the purpose of this application, EU area includes EU member states, EU associated states, countries of the former Soviet Union, Israel, Egypt. Visits must be to a EBSA Member country that is not the home or base country of the applicant. The base country is the country where the applicant is carrying out his/her research, and/or where he/she is registered for a Ph.D. Previous recipients of EBSA bursaries are eligible for new awards, but not within 24 months of the end of the previous award and not if they have failed to submit a report of the previous visit. The bursary is to be used to defray the cost of travel and to contribute to the cost of subsistence, such as accommodation and the cost of registration. Travel is expected to be by low-cost airline, train or bus. Payment will be carried out in a single payment, by bank transfer, as close to the time of the meeting as possible. The amount made available for each visit will be no more than 400 Euros, including the registration cost.
The awarding of bursaries will be decided by the Awards Committee, within the financial framework provided by the EBSA Executive Committee. The Awards Committee will process applications 3 times/year. The Awards Committee will have the final say for decisions concerning eligibility, scientific merit of the application and the level of support. The Awards Committee may ask the applicants to provide supplementary clarifications or to modify the proposals. In case of a dispute about procedure, the EBSA Executive Committee will have the final decision.
All recipients of an EBSA Bursary are required to submit a brief report (no more than 2 pages) describing the achievements during the visit. The report must be received by the EBSA Secretariat within 6 months of the end of the award. All correspondence will be carried out by email, in English.
Applications are invited from young scientists from the EU area who wish to carry out experiments in a laboratory in an EBSA country.

Bursaries are considered for working visits in the field of biophysics. Working visits are expected to last from one to ten weeks, depending on the individual case. The bursary is to be used to defray the cost of travel and to contribute to the cost of subsistence, such as accommodation. The bursaries are not salaries, and cannot be used towards the cost of research.
